This has been sitting on my phone for quite some
time now and I've never felt quite comfortable sharing with the public,
but I'm sharing it now... To anyone who has loved an addict: I can
relate, don't let them tear you down, sometimes you have to love them
enough to walk away and know you're better off. They have to want to
help themselves! It's not your fault, and it's not your problem to take
on and tackle...
I had SO many emotions running through me as I
wrote this, but it flowed out with ease and wrapped up nicely. I know
I'm in such a better place now and would never go back.
I don't want you in a drunken stupor
Or the high that makes you dead
The over-acting chaos
The quiet dissonance
These things don't make you better
No, not better than you've been
They fill you with illusions
They fill me painfully with dread
The person underneath it all
Makes my heart seem to soar
The moments of great honesty
Make me ache for even more
Then in comes the chaos
The smoke and drink galore
The person I so care for
Is now hollow furthermore
Thoughtful and so helpful
Loving and sincere for sure
Traded out for anger
Abandoned for fake "more"
Is reality that unbearable
You feel you must escape
Or is there something powerful
Keeping you this way?
Buried deep within you
I see the well-worn man
Broken down in pieces
Reaching out for a hand
A love so unconditional
Can bring somebody wrath
Ignoring all the symptoms
And ignoring all the past
Put away the "medicines"
This world has offered up
The quick fix and the antidote
That make a quick escape
No one sees the evidence
Until it's far too late
But then our God comes, Heaven-sent
Handing out His grace
Grace and mercy, evident
A free and upturned face
He sees the pain is ever-sent
But He's with you in this place
His love is unconditional
But He won't leave you in this place
Cause He knows that would be criminal
He wants to give you all-new faith
Hold tight to what He's promising
He sees you face to face
Ready to embrace you whole
And lead you grace by grace
Uncovering wounds and scars
The battles of the past
He comes to bind them up with love
To rid you of the shame
A new life has been started here
The old has gone away
He's ready to hold on to you
Every step and every way.
I've seen the darker sides of you,
I've seen them bright as day
I fell in love anyway
I still pray in every way
I saw The One inside of you
Craving to be loved
I tried to draw it out of you
But only God can do that much
The drugs they all but numbed you
For hours and days gone by
I loved all those moments
You left those things behind
Your happy and your carefree,
The paranoia gone
Gave glimpses of what could be
The man so far from home
I miss those fleeting moments
The times you loved me strong
The times I knew for certain
You were what I wanted most
Life seems so uncertain
But I know one thing for sure
My God is always working
And He's in your life, of course
Hope is ever still stirring
And love is strong and bold
I believe The Everlasting
Has plans still going forth.
